Cabras House

Serra das Cabras, Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil.
2021

Casa Cabras is located atop a hill, in a clearing amidst the forest. Its industrialized construction still carries the natural spirit of wood, establishing a contrasting and complementary relation with the mountains and nature that surrounds it.

Strongly defined by the modularity of the industrialized wooden pillars, the house exposes its structural elements, which reference a primitive and contemporary quality alike. In this way, it gives light to its construction in CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) and MLC / Glulam (Glued Laminated Timber), being honest about its techniques and incorporating them as an essential part of the experience of inhabiting it.

Two programmatic envelopes, one intimate and one social, correlate as volumes discontinued in space, but integrated by an open-covered balcony that runs through the continuity of their facades. The northeast social veranda overlooks a horizon outlined by the mountains and to the southwest an intimate veranda faces a forest.

Between the two volumes, at the meeting of the balconies, there is a void that houses the main access and an area for meetings and collective experiences. An intermezzo that operates as a great space of opportunities, of indefinite uses to be discovered by its residents.

Finally, the house generates spatialities and transparencies on its facades, facing the mountains and the forest, thus sharing daily life with the landscape, and vice versa.
