The inhabitants of a unique 1944 Art Deco house are looking to expand the possibilities of use of their home.

By simply and strategically adding a single volume located at one of the points of the property with the best views of the bay of Montevideo, the house acquires a diverse set of new spaces and uses: two equipped studios for two different forms of creative work - one for a musician and the other for a photographer -, two distinct courtyards, and a rooftop that becomes part of the home's everyday dynamics.

The new construction is strategically located above the space that previously served as the backyard of the house. The addition functions as a device that dialogues in multiple ways with the original Art Deco architecture, with the expansive landscape of the bay, and with the complex network of industrial and residential constructions in the neighborhood.

The intervention divides the former courtyard into two: one in the front, characterized by a metal spiral staircase, and another in the back, distinguished by its intimacy. Within it, the two studios are configured: the one upstairs, with confined and defined spatiality, is isolated to be used as a space for multiple purposes, including musical production; downstairs, through two large glazed panels, an interior space is defined which, when closed and darkened by curtains, functions as an adaptable workspace and study area, and when opened, reconfigures the spatial continuity of the original courtyard.
Additionally, the project successfully integrates the rooftop of the house into the family's daily dynamics as a space for outdoor enjoyment.
